How To Write A Story

Story writing tips: Be sure to include the 5Ws and an H: Who, what, where, when, why and how. Include important specifics including names (who), places and addresses (where), and dates and times (when). Give other users a reason to read your story – make sure there is a sentence or paragraph that makes the point of the story clear (what and why). When appropriate, explain how the story developed. If you are describing an upcoming event, be sure to let readers know what they need to do to participate. Remember that your story needs to be complete, but that doesn’t necessarily mean long. In fact, shorter is better.

Keep it interesting. Using quotes from people enlivens a story and makes readers feel like they were there. Stories that also convey how something looked, sounded or even smelled make for compelling reading.

Finally, you can add a caption to the photo – usually this is a short sentence explaining the photo. Be sure to provide the first and last names of the people in the photo, and that you have permission to use them in your photo.
